Citizenship and British Values

British Values at Lidget Green Primary School
Democracy

We actively promote democracy by ensuring pupils have regular opportunities to
express their views and influence decision-making.

  • An elected School Council, with representatives from Years 1 to 6, chosen
    through a democratic voting process
  • Regular pupil voice surveys to gather children’s views on school life
  • School Council visit to City Hall to take part in a democracy workshop
  • Visits from local councillors, helping pupils understand democratic processes
    at a local level
  • Class-level voting on books, or class rewards
Rule of Law

Pupils understand the importance of rules, laws, and fairness, and how these help to
keep everyone safe.

  • Clear, consistently applied school rules: Ready, Respectful, Safe, understood
    by all pupils
  •  Internet safety lessons and assemblies teaching children how to stay safe
    online
  • Road safety assemblies supporting pupils’ understanding of personal and
    community safety

    responsibility for their choices.

expression, making a difference, and making positive choices
  • Active participation in School Council meetings, where pupils can voice
    opinions and suggest change
